So many Vancouver residents are standing up against Canadian Tire’s application for a Big-Box store on SW Marine Drive, that City Council has scheduled a third night of public hearings starting at 7:30 pm on Tues, Nov 27.

In two nights of previous hearings, most residents expressed concerns about increased traffic, air pollution and the risk to cyclists on the Ontario and Kent bikeways. Many also say a Big Box will impact local shopping areas.

Building Better Neighbourhoods spokesperson Louise Seto today called on Council to delay a vote on  Canadian Tire’s application until Council decides on the new EcoDensity policy that is going before Council on November 27. Eco-Density will then go to public hearings next February when Council will make a decision on adopting Eco-Density.

Meanwhile, Vancouver Planning Director Brent Toderian  admitted at the November 13 public hearing that Canadian Tire’s Big-Box proposal wasn’t evaluated in the light of the  Eco-Density policy.
