A surge in membership over the past month is forcing the Coalition of Progressive Electors (COPE) to change the location of its upcoming Annual General Meeting. COPE had booked the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral on East 10th Avenue, which was also the site of last year’s AGM, but this venue will no longer have the capacity for this year’s meeting.

COPE External Chair RJ Aquino said: “It’s very exciting to see this new interest in COPE. Over the past year, Vancouver residents have recognized how important our party is for the city, and they see us as the best way to ensure that Vancouver is affordable and equitable for everyone.”

New COPE member and activist Lisa Curry said: “I got involved with COPE because I want to see real change in Vancouver, especially for affordable housing. We haven’t made any progress in the past five years. I feel as though only COPE, a party that doesn’t accept funding from the real-estate industry, can bring about this change.”

The new venue is the Maritime Labour Centre, at 1880 Triumph Street (at Victoria Drive).
