Canadian Tire wants to build a massive 250,000-sq ft big-box development on Marine Drive in South Vancouver. This huge complex would be five times bigger than Canadian Tire’s Cambie and Seventh Ave outlet, and is expected to generate up to 11,000 car a truck trips a day through an already congested neighbourhood.

Vancouver City Council will make a decision on Canadian Tire’s Big-Box plan at a public hearing on Tues, Nov 13, 2007 at 7:30 pm at Vancouver City Hall.

Building Better Neighbourhoods and other local residents and community groups have long opposed plans by Canadian Tire and Wal-Mart to build highway-oriented,  big-box stores in their community.  They are asking those who care about Vancouver’s neighbourhoods, and who want to prevent yet more harmful vehicle-related pollution from endangering public health, to attend the November 13 public hearing and urge City Council to reject Canadian Tire’s Big-Box plans.
