Opening Minds to Canadian Mines – April 4th

celebrating solidarity with communities in
Guatemala affected by Canadian mining

UBC-Geography 495 & BC CASA, in collaboration with St. James’ Social Gospel
Coordinating Group invite you to an evening of solidarity to learn more
about how Canadians are connected to communities in Guatemala through the
activities of GoldCorp, a Vancouver-based gold mining company. Maya Youth
Alliance & Canadian journalist Dawn Paley will share details about the
social and environmental impacts of the mining operations in Guatemala.

When: April 4th, 6:30 p.m.
Where: St. James Anglican Church, 303 East Cordova Street
(entrance off Gore)

Suggested donation: $5.00

Open your minds to what Canadian mining companies are doing in Guatemala and
beyond; learn what you can do to promote alternative and more sustainable
mining practices; enjoy fresh juices, tamales, Café Justicia; learn salsa
dancing; celebrate solidarity!
