Join us for an important and exciting meeting this Sunday where we will choose candidates and confirm policy proposals, as well as hearing from three Mayoralty candidates who are seeking our support.

Date and Time: Sunday June 10, 2018 at 2pm (Registration begins at 1pm)

Location: Upstairs Hall Holy Trinity Anglican Church 1440 West 12th Ave. (1st block east of Granville)

Elections: The following candidates have submitted nomination papers to COPE:


For Parks Board

Gwen Giesbrecht: President of the Britannia Board of Management, Small business owner, Long time resident of Grandview Woodlands, 2011 COPE Candidate for School Board.
John Irwin: SFU Lecturer in Geography,Resource & Environmental Management, Cycling advocate & sustainability activist.

For School Board

Diana Day:  Advocate for the Indigenous Community and successful culturally safe learning environments for vulnerable youth, Former Co-Chair of the VSB District PAC.
Barb Parrott: Retired teacher, Past President and Honourary Life Member Vancouver Elementary Teachers Association.

For Council

Wes Didier:  Metis PhD Candidate in Comparative Physiology & Ecology,  Former teacher of gifted children.
Derrick O’Keefe: A lifelong grassroots activist and organizer, Derrick has been an integral part of the movements for peace, social justice, and media democracy in Vancouver for the past two decades.
Anne Roberts:  Former journalism instructor (retired) Langara College and former COPE School Board Trustee and City Councillor. Lifelong peace and justice advocate especially for women’s rights and for  the Palestinian people.

Watch for a dramatic launch event at 11am on Saturday June 9 on The Crescent (park surrounded by Shughnessy mansions) for

Jean Swanson: Poverty activist for four decades, COPE endorsed mayoralty candidate in 1988, Recipient of the Order of Canada in 2017, and the clearly leading progressive candidate in last fall’s by-election.

Policy: There will be an opportunity to vote on proposed language combining resolutions from our April Policy Conference with prior COPE policies, and for confirming that ‘Team Jean’s THE CITY WE NEED document is consistent with these.

Mayoralty Debate:
We have invited three prospective mayoralty candidates who are seeking COPE’s support to tell us why they want to run for Mayor, and how they would make Vancouver a better place to live. Patrick Condon, Kennedy Stewart, and Shauna Sylvester will present their views and take questions from COPE members.
