Thank you so much for your support of the 2008 COPE election campaign! Whether you put up a sign, volunteered or simply voted, it was you who made possible our progressive sweep at City Hall, Park Board and School Board!
Already, our new Council has taken strong action on homelessness and renters’ rights. COPE Councillor Ellen Woodsworth is asking the hard questions as she advocates for seniors, women and the LGBTQ community. She is also leading community involvement in events such as International Women’s Day and pushing for diverse representation on Vancouver committees. COPE Councillor David Cadman has advocated for greater wireless accessibility and will be an essential part of the Mayor’s new Green Taskforce, bringing ideas on sustainability from cities around the world.
At the School Board, COPE Trustees Al Blakey, Jane Bouey and Allan Wong are fi ghting unfair, distracting and unnecessarily expensive examinations like the FSA and standing up for our kids, while Park Commissioner Loretta Woodcock is pushing hard for better parks and increased community centre access.
However, the work has just started and that’s why we’re writing today. To make sure COPE continues to ask the hard questions and hold our government to account, we need your support. Today, I’m asking you to make a one-time donation or – better yet – become one of our crucial monthly donors.
If you’re not already a member of COPE, please consider joining. If you are already a member, thank you for making that commitment to justice and good government in Vancouver. Please renew your membership today and ask friends, co-workers and family members to join you in supporting COPE’s vital work. With this organization, the members are COPE. Unlike most political parties, COPE’s policies aren’t cobbled together in back rooms – they’re formulated by the members themselves, in live debate and online. Members are entitled to vote at our Annual General Meetings (this year, on April 5th) and at policy conferences.
We understand that these are tough economic times, but now it is especially crucial to have ourvoice heard at city hall – even a small contribution helps! You know more people than we do, so share thisletter (also available online at http://www.cope.bc.ca/content/donate-2009) with your friends, your neighbours, your union local or church group!
Thanks to your support, we are working hard for homes for everyone, transit for everyone and neighbourhoods for everyone. Together, we will create a Vancouver for everyone. Thanks again for your time and eff ort – we look forward to hearing from you soon. The envelope that’s enclosed makes it easy to respond! If you’re reading this online, consider donating online HERE or sending in the form attached.
