The Coalition of Progressive Electors is urging City Council not to adopt a staff report that would recommend that governance of Hastings Park be delegated to an appointed board.

Hastings Park is the only park in the City of Vancouver that is not under control of the democratically elected Vancouver Parks Board.

COPE has consistently supported the Park Board having governance over Hastings Park. On May 27th, 2013, the Vancouver Parks Board passed a motion urging council to support a governance structure that would give control to the Parks Board, as with all other parks.

Anita Romaniuk, Chair of COPE Parks Committee, urges City Council to heed the motion passed by the Park Board on May 27 to award Governance of Hastings Park to the Park Board as the “best option”.
