Adoption of Agenda for Campaign Committee Meeting: MSC
Adoption of minutes from Campaign Committee Meeting: June 12 2018: Not moved. Secretery’s note: June 2 2018 draft minutes remain unratified.
Wendy: Inquiry Who can come to the executive meetings, and who can vote? Connie: Any member of COPE can come to meetings voice without vote. Campaign Committee, which the COPE Executive now is, can add addtional people and empower with vote – vote as a committee, which will be recommended to the executive committee.
Connie: Campaign Mediation/Committee: Biweekly meetings (Anne Roberts)
1. Finance: Carol – Finances/liabilities (see attachment); Donations – where and how should we be asking? Carol moves acceptance of finance report. Wendy seconds Carried. Sara inquiring how to view finance information: Alan all executive members have access codes to this website and will resend this information how to log in. Alan we can add donations to school board and main campaign; Alan also will match $60 (his own money) for $40 to subsidize June 26 2018 dinner – Alan encouraging all Team Jean members to attend this important function.
2. Connie: Fundraising,
50th Anniversary Gala, Wendy: Low cost barrier at Anniversary dinner after 8:30pm – it was free previously in 2014 election. Team Jean trying to sell tickets ohn assisting with scanning/slide show of COPE archival materials. Bill: Attending dinner – no one should be turned away for lack of funds, suggesting free for after 8:30pm. Gary: Archives / slide show at dinner and sound system needs to be picked up early. John: Subsidize the Anniversary dinner to be an all inclusive event
July 12 Fundraiser New India Cafe – All welcome. Derrick: Campaign Fundraiser
J S. Swanant (Seattle) visiting in October for COPE fundraiser.
Riaz: We need a no cover event – a bigger crowd.
Rankinfile (complimentary showing); Team Jean donors – 700 approx. will lobby for support. . Sam: 200 patrons for South East Asian dinner in August.
3. Outreach Review of Car Free events and Toast – Connie: great success both Car Free days June 16 & 17; Sara: new communications channel re: SLACK – City We Need; Riaz: ping pong table super success (people like playing pig pong with Jean Swanson) – find a way to message our campaign in the game (visuals etc, logos, ground game). Bill: Vision’s table across from COPE’s/ TeamJean’s was not well frequented. John: July 8th Car Free Day?
Derrick: Toast – only COPE candidate; mostly social democrat candidates.
Need business cards and COPE materials asap.
Petition Campaign: East Side Pride: Petioners –
Ben helping organize event. Event at Grandview Park, east Vancouver.
Hot Pink Pathways: For female candidates.
Rebranding/colours etc: Derrick – last summer we were all Team Jean/Socialist Alternative/COPE – Reporters were commenting on Jean’s brand very positively – recommending colours be accepted in principal: moving we accept the colour scheme shown tonight (Red/White/Black); Riaz moves this motion on Derrick’s behalf. Sara seconds. Carried (with recommendation from Communications Committee).
4. Code of Conduct: Rider – still researching Approval of Grievance Officer: Wendy – awaiting commentary from Leslie; we could include interim Code of Conduct. Sara moves Ben Ger draft up a document we can incorporate. Wendy seconds. Connie: Leslie recommended assist COPE with Code of Conduct and that we have three ombudspersons. Connie moves COPE appoint Leslie as our first Grievance Officer. Riaz seconds. MSC5.
HR report: Gary 5/4 vote to post the two, 4week term positions publicly. Connie: will be posted tonight. Connie: suggesting a smaller hiring group – two people perhaps to hire the candidates.
Sara: Intervention Committee: Mel Lehan asked to facilitate; Anne Roberts mediated. COPE 3 ; Team Jean 3: to report back to campaign committee. Sara moves Tristan be appointed as Communications Coordiantor for the interim position. Rider seconds. MSC Wendy moves Sara also be appointed for the interim position until position is filled. Carried, one abstention MSC
Connie moves Bill Hopwood be added to the Campaign Committee. MSC
To do: John to send Jonathan Rosanblum’s “Beyond $15:” Discussion and action guide A handbook for activists to COPE Campaign/Executive Committee for training and recruiting new activistvolunteers. Carried, two abstentions. Wendy moves COPE publicly post the short and long versions for the two job postings – motion withdrawn. Bill moves In interests in transparency, to mail out to all Team Jean and all COPE members the advertisement for the new two positions, and further, ask our members if they know good candidates to recommend for hiring. Riaz seconds. Carried.
