Al Blakey

ELECT FOR SCHOOL BOARD

Al Blakey has been a fixture in the Vancouver public education system for over 33 years. First elected to the School Board as a COPE candidate in 1999, he has been re-elected 3 times. Blakey has also spent 10 years on the BC Teachers Federation executive, including 2 as President.

Blakey is clear about why he is passionate about being a School Trustee. “The defence and improvement of education in the Vancouver school system is and has always been my top priority,” says Blakey.

“Education in Vancouver faces an ongoing problem of underfunding that erodes the quality of education for all children but particularly the most vulnerable. And the most vulnerable are increasing. This is not good enough. We must present a vision of what schools should be and demand the resources to make them so. It’s the only way we can meet our goal of creating a Vancouver for everyone.”

Blakey is a long time resident of East Vancouver and a proud member of the Still Creek CO-OP.
