1970 Campaign

Real-estate developers and big corporations have controlled Vancouver’s City Hall for most of the city’s history. In response to this the Coalition of Progressive Electors was founded in 1968 by a coalition of activists, community organizers, and trade unionists.

Since then, we have been fighting constantly to make Vancouver affordable, sustainable, and fun. We have fought for low-cost transit, more environmentally sound policy, more community involvement in decision-making and planning, more parks, better schools, and more. For a look at what we’ve advocated for in more recent history, you can take a look at our past platforms.

Currently we are working to organize and make public COPE’s internal archive. If you would like to help get involved, please email us at cope@cope.bc.ca.
